Child custody is often the most critical part of a divorce proceeding and the most difficult process emotionally. At Escandari & Michon, we are sensitive to this fact and work hard to make the process as smooth as possible. Our attorneys have the skill and understanding to help families quickly reach resolution in these highly sensitive matters. Each parent or relative we represent can rely on our expertise in custody matters.
California has a "joint custody" law that encourages judges to award joint "legal custody" to parents. This means that both parents have a right to make decisions concerning their children, such as education, medical treatment and religious training.
The court also has the power to award "physical custody" to one or both parents. Physical custody determines where the child actually lives, and it is most common for the children to spend most of their time with one parent.
Our goal in family law practice is to obtain positive results for our clients, so they can build a new future for themselves and their families.
